Tweets from U.S. Cellular confirm Windows Phone 8 model coming this month
A pair of tweets sent last week from regional carrier U.S. Cellular confirm that it will launch its first Windows Phone 8 handset sometime this month. The phone coming to the mobile operator is the Samsung ATIV Odyssey. This model offers a 4 inch Super AMOLED screen with resolution of 480 x 800 (WVGA). That works out to a pixel density of 233ppi. A dual-core 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Plus processor is under the hood. 1GB of RAM handles multitasking while the phone carries 8GB of native storage. The latter can be expanded by using the 64GB capacity microSD slot. A 5MP camera on back captures video in 1080 x 1920 and there is a 1.2MP snapper on front. The 2100mAh cell keeps the gerbils running on the wheel.
Windows Phone 8 is finally coming to U.S. Cellular about two years after it launched its first Windows Phone model. That phone was the HTC 7 Pro. The only Windows Phone 7 model left on the carrier's roster is the ZTE Render, which can be yours for 1 cent with a signed two-year contract.
We don't have a precise date for the launching of the Samsung ATIV Odyssey on U.S. Cellular, but with July about one week over, it shouldn't be terribly long before it occurs.
