MobilRelay, LLC, a company based in Michigan, has launched a Movie Box Office (MBO) service that allows movie-goers to buy tickets from their mobile phones. Moreover the service allows them to present the theater usher an on-screen bar code instead of a ticket. The service is accessible for all handsets, featuring color displays and Internet browser. All the movie-goers have to do is to go to the MBO site, select a movie and showtime, purchase the ticket paying by credit card and wait for a text message with a link to a webpage, where they will find a unique bar code, confirming the purchase. At The movie theater this on-screen bar code has to be presented to the tickettaker to scan. The service is currently available at the Emagine Entertainment Theater in suburban Detroit, but the MBO founder Thomas Beals shared with The Detroit News that he is expecting an Emagine theater in Novi to launch the service soon and is hoping that it will expand to the major movie chains.
