TinType by Hipstamatic will magically transform your portrait to look as if it was taken decades ago

You have all seen those old pictures of your grandma or grandpa, all well prepared and posing for a rare picture, expression a bit too formal as if after a special event. Indeed, a photograph was a special event just a few decades ago and it came with a special look, or rather style that everyone can instantly recognize.

Retro camera effects maker Hipstamatic wants to allow the modern you to have a picture in that very same style with its new TinType app for iPhone.

And by the looks of it, it has nailed the effect just right. TinType is a $1 app that focuses on achieving the sole effect of old pictures, and it does well twisting and turning your pictures to have a sepia, black and white or a hand-painted look, becoming a slightly damaged copy of its sharp original self.

You also have a few key controls: you can tweak the eye intensity, plate grain, and depth-of-field, and all the edits are non-destructive. You can check out this new app right below.
