We've been hearing for a while now that
this August we will get not one, but two Galaxy Note devices — the “regular”
Galaxy Note 6 (
could be named Note 7) and
an Edge variant, much like the
Galaxy S7 /
Galaxy S7 edge duo. Of course, we are left with the question – would the Note 6 Edge be a reincarnation of the first generation
Note Edge — with its more meaningful,
multitasking-oriented Edge Panels — or just a continuation of the Galaxy S7 edge philosophy, where the curved sides serve more for looks than for practical purposes.
Well, a very small glimpse at what is allegedly the Note 6 Edge's design may provide some answers. A video of what appears to be a promotional render of the curvy phablet has been leaked. Now, we only get to see a small part of the phone for less than a second. It appears that the leakster was filming a video of another screen, which was showing the render, and had to be really careful about not getting caught, thus, we get a low-quality, weird angle clip. Oh well, that's the nature of leaks.
On the video, we can clearly see what appears to be the bottom of a Note device, easily recognizable thanks to the click-out S Pen, seen on the right, next to the speaker. And, as the phone rolls off to the left, we see a very definite curve on the screen. The presence of a USB Type-C port is also notable, and a bit curious. Samsung chose to not go the Type-C route with the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge, but rumors have been suggesting that the manufacturer will put the reversible port
on the upcoming phablets.
A couple of hours after the potato-shot video appeared, however, leaksters uSwitch and OnLeaks announced another big scoop – apparently, schematics of the device have also been leaked, and the leaksters teamed up to build early renders of it. And, what you see below is, allegedly, the Samsung Galaxy Note 6(or 7) Edge, in its full glory.
The design obviously borrows a lot from the Galaxy S7 edge, with a very respectable screen-to-body ratio and rounded-off frame sides for increased ergonomics. On the back, we can see that the camera bulge has been minimized to a near-flush size, again – just like in the S7 series. The top and bottom bezels, however look ever so slightly larger than the ones on the S7 models (proportionally speaking). Also, we see a lot of openings on the “forehead” of the smartphone. We've got the regular proximity and light sensors, which is the pair on the left of the earpiece, and the selfie camera, which is the slightly larger black dot on the right. But what are the other 2 for? Could one be an opening for the multi-color notification LED and the other – a flash for the selfie camera?
The phone shown on the diagrams is very slightly taller and thicker, but is narrower than the Note 5. The alleged Note 6 Edge's measurements are listed as 6.04 x 2.90 x 0.31 inches (153.5mm x 73.9mm x 7.9mm), while the Note 5's body is 6.03 x 3.00 x 0.30 inches (153.2 x 76.1 x 7.6 mm). Of course, this is not hard to believe, as Samsung clearly demonstrated that the company is much more interested in providing devices with large, long-lasting batteries, than to making each new model thinner than the last.
And, let's remember that, while these renders do look pretty believable – a rumor is still a rumor, grab that salt shaker and feast your eyes on the images below!
