Things go better with Apple? Cupertino tech giant replaces Coke on top of global brands list
For 13 consecutive years, soft drink giant Coca-Cola has been on the top of Interbrand's Best Global Brands list. But on Monday, Coke's reign at the top will be officially over once Interbrand announces its new top 100 list. The new number one global brand is Apple, completing a run to the top that saw the iPhone manufacturer at number 8 in 2011 and number 2 behind Coke last year. According to Jez Frampton, global chief executive at Interbrand, Apple's placement in the top spot was "A matter of time. What is it they say, ‘Long live the king’? This year, the king is Apple."

Coca-Cola dropped to 3rd as Google took 2nd, up from 4th last year. Microsoft remained number 5. Samsung (8) and Intel (9) flip-flopped positions from 2012 to 2013. It wasn't all good news for mobile companies we follow regularly. BlackBerry, which was 56th in 2011 and 93rd in 2012, is now off the list. And Finnish handset manufacturer Nokia had the largest fall of names in the top 100. The company went from 14th in 2011 to 19th last year and is now 57th in the new report.

The value of the Apple brand is estimated at $98.3 billion, up 28% from last year. Coke's brand is worth $79.2 billion, up 2% from last year. Will this be the start of an Apple dynasty like Coke enjoyed for 13 years?
