The market for budget Android smartphones is one of the most competitive that we've seen throughout all of 2016. Heavy-hitters like the OnePlus 3, Honor 8, Axon 7, and Alcatel Idol 4S are just a few of the most notable contenders that we've seen this year, and last week Samsung officially took the wraps off of their latest budget entry - the Samsung Galaxy On Nxt.
On the surface, the On Nxt features a 5.5-inch 1920 x 1080p display, 13MP camera on the back, 8MP selfie shooter up front, and 32GB of internal storage that can be expanded via a microSD card. Moving inside the phone, we're looking at an octa-core Exynos 7879 chipset with a clock speed of 1.6 GHz, 3GB of RAM, and a pretty hefty 3,300 mAh battery. House all of these specs inside an aluminium body, and you're looking at a rather nice package.
Despite only being officially announced last week, Samsung has already put the device up for purchase on Flipkart. The Galaxy On Nxt is currently an exclusive to the online shopping site and features a retail price of ₹18,490 - around $275 in USD. It comes in either Black or Gold and ships with Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box. Samsung hasn't said anything about a future update to 7.0 Nougat, but even with the handset being a bit on the lower side of the spectrum, we would be surprised if it didn't get upgraded at least to 7.0 considering that 7.1 is already out as a developer preview.
Even though the phone is currently an exclusive to India, I've got to admit that it would be nice to see this thing make its way over to the States at some point. Although there's already a fair amount of competition, a price tag of $250 or $299 would make it an incredibly enticing package considering its specs and build quality.
However, for the time being, those who are lucky enough to reside in India can pick the phone up here.
