Remember Escape From New York? In the movie, the protagonist, Snake Plissken (memorably played by Kurt Russell) goes on a rescue mission being given a gun, a radio, and a countdown watch. A bright creator got the idea to recreate the watch for modern times upon seeing the movie again, and behold, the Lifeclock One is live on Kickstarter.

In addition to having a countdown timer, the watch has been upgraded with a proper time and date display, along with push notifications and alerts for incoming calls and text messages from your smartphone, a step counter, smartphone camera controls, and other goodies. However, it only has an LED display, so fans of elaborate watchfaces will have to reconsider their taste for digital looks. Or borrow the 1981 movie on Netflix and feel cool about wearing this promising recreation of the original prop.

At $399, the Lifeclock One is pricy even for a smartwatch, so it seems like only fans of the movie will be really enticed by it, considering there are cheaper and more understated options out there. Then again, none of them have this unique look or would look particularly impressive on Kurt Russell's wrist.
