TI introduces new OMAP4 chip increasing multimedia capabilities in phones
Texas Instruments announced their new OMAP4 chip. The company plans to begin sampling this mobile processor in the second half of this year. Supporting up to 20MP sensors, the chip will also allow for recording and playing back video at 1080p and offer a week of audio playback time. Devices using the OMAP4 will browse web pages substantially quicker and have 7 times more computing power, 6 times higher video resolution and 6 times longer audio playback than what is available on the current line-up of smartphones. Battery life also will be improved. Volume production of this chip is slated for the second half of 2010 making it another positive thing for smartphone users to look forward to.
