TELUS to offer BlackBerry 9780 starting October 21st?
We have seen many leaks about the BlackBerry 9780, a handset made to replace the Bold 9700. Now that the latter device has been put on TELUS' end-of-life list, it can mean only one thing-the Bold 9780 is coming to TELUS very soon. Speculation has now centered on October 21st as the launch date for this Bold "Refresh".
RIM has upgraded the camera to a 5MP shooter and doubled RAM to 512MB. The display still measures 2.4 inches with a resolution of 480 x 360 pixels. There still is a 624MHz processor under the hood, but for the first time on a non-touch device, the BlackBerry 6 OS and new WebKit browser will be on board.
While we have no pricing info to pass along, we do have a video of the 9780 in action. And yes, Stateside 'Berry fans, the Bold 9780 should work it's way down to the U.S. eventually. The big clue that a U.S. launch is imminent will be when the carriers-like TELUS did-put the Bold 9700 on the EOL list. While the device has yet to be announced by RIM, pictures of the phone in various colors (including white) have appeared and as we reported, a now-removed video of the 9780 showed the device wearing T-Mobile's branding.
