One of the least fun games in the Android ecosystem is the game of "when will the OS update come?" T-Mobile G2x users have been playing this game for over a month now and it looks like it'll be at least another month before the update to Android 2.3 Gingerbread hits the device.
When the G2x was released in April, T-Mobile said that users "[wouldn't] have to wait long" for the update. At the beginning of May, there was a leak of the Gingerbread update for the phone, which fueled speculation that the official update couldn't be too far away. We are now closing in on June, and T-Mobile is now saying that they plan "to update the G2x to Gingerbread by summer." Of course, not having "to wait long" and "by summer" aren't really the most specific timetables that one could ask for. The most direct interpretation would make it seem that T-Mobile is planning to release the update by June 21st, which is the first day of summer, but since T-Mobile didn't say that exactly, we can't confirm that this is the due date.
We are hoping, though, that the delay has been caused by changing the update to 2.3.4. The leaked update from earlier this month was for version 2.3.3, but with some luck the update will be 2.3.4 when it hits, meaning it would include video chat in Google Talk. We'll keep our fingers crossed on that one!
