T-Mobile going strong: nets 2 million subs in Q3 thanks to iPhone 7 and other promos

T-Mobile just posted its third quarter results, and they can be summed up in one word: "excellent". The Un-carrier scored 2 million more subscribers, pushing its revenue 13% higher. T-Mobile earned $2.6 Billion before taxes and depreciation, of which $366 million of cold hard cash will rest in its coffers.

The total subscriber base of T-Mobile is now more than 69 million, and this is its 14th quarter in a row with a net user add of more than a million. The reasons for the successful third quarter of T-Mobile can be attributed to various promotions, including for the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus. According to CEO John Legere: "That’s 14 quarters in a row that T-Mobile has won share from the competition. The Un-carrier is delivering. We took share and grew our customer base while producing both financial growth and shareholder value. Most importantly, we are delivering results for both customers and shareholders alike.

To put this growth in perspective, T-Mobile had just 33 million subs before John Legere took the helm. Granted, the carrier's net income last quarter pales in comparison to Verizon or AT&T, but since it's subscribers that are pocketing the difference, nobody is complaining - the net increase in subs came precisely from the big carriers anyway.
