Unlocking your T-Mobile handset is going to be just a little bit easier thanks to some new policy changes being implemented. Post paid and FlexPay customers will be able to obtain a SIM unlock code after 40 days starting January 21 – down from the original 90 days previously. On the other hand, prepaid customers will be able to get one after 60 days – now that’s as long as they have an account balance of at least $10 or made a refill within the last 30 days. Finally for those who cancelled their account, they can still obtain one if their account is in good standing and had an active T-Mobile account for at least 40 days. Now it’s all fine and dandy that T-Mobile is making the process shorter, but there is one requirement in it all – you can’t have a past due balance presently; and will need to pay it in full if you’re attempting to even get an unlock code. With a little bit of patience, you’ll have the ability to use your handset in just about any location – it’s a pretty good policy change when you consider the guidelines used by other carriers.
