Synapse-Phones, a German company, is now offering customizable Android devices for pre-order. Customers will be able to customize their device in the same way you would order a custom PC from Dell.
The Synapse Android device template will start with Android 2.2, a 1GHz processor, a 4-inch Super AMOLED screen (480x800), dual microphones, an aluminum frame, and a microSD slot.
You can then choose from features like new radios (i.e. 3G, LTE, WiMAX). You can also choose from different cameras, up to 12 megapixels, and either physical or capacitive buttons.
The more aesthetically inclined will appreciate the many color options, so you don't have to purchase a cheesy aftermarket skin to express yourself, or pay an arm and a leg for a new housing.
The people have certainly demonstrated their interest in Synapse-Phones, overloading its under-prepared website. Devices starting at around US$410 are available for pre-order now (when the website is back up and running), and will ship by the middle of Q1 in 2011.
