Study suggests that AT&T may overtake Verizon as the top dog in 2011
Verizon was able to dethrone AT&T from the number one spot in the US after they were able to absorb Alltel, but a new study suggests that the number two wireless carrier may be well on its way back to the top spot. IE Market Research said in a new study that the recent higher growth rate achieved by AT&T in the spring versus what Verizon was able to obtain points to a telling tale that AT&T can take the lead by the spring of 2011. Taking advantage of its speculated last days of exclusivity with the iPhone, this might be a possibility if the market stays on its steady course. Looking to the future already, the study said that AT&T could have a healthy lead by 2014 where they would have 34.8 percent of the market versus Big Red's 32.5 percent. Conversely, other researchers have pointed out that the loss of the iPhone's exclusivity could land AT&T in a hot predicament where they might see customers sticking with Verizon if they do happen to land a version of the iPhone next year.
