Sprint to out 7" ZTE Optik slate on February 5 - mere $100 gets you dual-core and 16GB of memory
An internal Sprint document is listing the ZTE Optik 7" tablet as coming February 5 for a sweet, sweet Benjamin. $99.99 price shouldn't mean 99 problems, though.
In the established tradition to offer good value for the money, ZTE has loaded the Optik with a 1.2GHz dual-core CPU of undisclosed make, 1GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory, as well as a decent 4000mAh battery and microSD slot. The slate will still run Honeycomb, though, and we'll wait to hear from ZTE on its ICS plans for the Optik.
Since Sprint is planning to cut its losses with the WiMAX bet and move on to the greener LTE pastures at some point, the ZTE Optik is only equipped with 3G connectivity, but that nice low pricing still makes it perfect for the lazy coach surfing sessions. We'll see if the ZTE Optik starts a new trend of affordable, yet branded tablets, sold with carrier subsidies - the up and coming Chinese makers can certainly expand their market share significantly with those.
