Soon you will be able to use your Samsung Gear S2 smartwatch with an iOS device
Samsung's keynote event at CES 2016 just ended, and one of the important things that were mentioned on stage was nothing else but its newest smartwatch family - the Tizen-powered Gear S2 lineup, which we liked very much. Apart from scoring two new versions - a platinum and a rose gold one - there is a new and rather important news regarding Samsung new wearable - they are about to score iOS compatibility later this year. Currently, you can only use a Gear S2 smartwatch with an Android device.
That's right, the Tizen-running Gear S2 and Gear S2 Classic will seamlessly work with your iPhone or iPad. We suppose that certain features of the wearable will be lost in the process. One of the more possible candidates is the support for Samsung Pay, which will also roll later to the smartwatch later this year, as it will most likely require a Samsung smartphone to be paired with the wearable. Currently, Samsung Pay is only supported on Samsung phones, but we heard that this might change sometime in the future.
That's merely a speculation though. Nonetheless, the upcoming compatibility between the Gear S2 and iOS will certainly be beneficial to those not impressed with the Apple Watch, yet still keen on smartwatches.
As to when the cross-platform compatibility will be rolled out to the masses, our guess is as good as yours - it is only known this will happen later this year. Beware, Apple Watch, some serious competition is coming your way!
