Sony Xperia Z2 global rollout begins today (in Taiwan)
Sony today started selling its new flagship Android smartphone, the Xperia Z2. However, at the moment the handset is available only in Taiwan, which was reportedly chosen to be “among the first wave of countries” to get the Z2 because Xperia products are very popular there.

The Xperia Z2 will see a wider availability starting April, when it's going to reach other Asian markets, as well as Europe. Until then, Taiwanese customers can buy the smartphone for around $782 (23,900 TWD in local currency). The price includes some Sony accessories, like a digital noise cancelling headset and a magnetic charging dock.

Running Android 4.4 KitKat, the Xperia Z2 brings significant improvements over last year's Xperia Z1: a 5.2-inch 1080p display with Live Color LED technology, a new quad-core 2.3GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, and 3GB of RAM. Like its predecessor, the new Xperia is dustproof and waterproof (IP58).

Alongside the Z2 smartphone, Sony also launched the Xperia Z2 Tablet in Taiwan. As you may know, the Z2 Tablet is already available in Europe (including in the UK). Some photos form the Taiwanese launch event can be seen below.

Sony was the third largest smartphone vendor in Taiwan last year, behind Samsung and HTC.
