Sony Xperia S owners will know the fate of the Android 4.1 update on the device by the middle of this month
Like a condemned killer on death row awaiting his last minute reprieve from the governor, owners of the
Sony Xperia S are waiting to hear from the Japanese manufacturer on whether or not the device gets updated to Android 4.1. A tweet sent out from Sony indicates that a decision will be made public on whether or not to update the handset, sometime in the
middle of this month. The OEM has already announced that the
Sony Xperia T, Sony Xperia TX and the Sony Xperia V will be updated to Jelly Bean in the middle of the first quarter of 2013.
Sony has also already announced that Sony Xperia models launched in 2011 will
not be receiving Android 4.1. The Sony Xperia S was launched in the first quarter of this year, easily counting as a 2012 Xperia device, While the handset, which features a unique translucent stripe near the bottom of the phone, was launched with Gingerbread, it was
updated to Android 4.0 on June 21st.
Will the Sony Xperia S receive Android 4.1 with Project Butter and Google Now? We should know within the next two weeks.
