UPDATE: Evleaks pulled the leak soon after posting it as the image was most likely a fake, as he clarified on his Twitter account.

It is a little known fact that several years ago, Sony Ericsson built a Windows Phone handset, yet chose not to release it for one reason or another. Now, a Sony smartphone running Windows Phone 8.1 is rumored to be in the works, and @evleaks might have just provided a legitimate picture of it. The photo you see here is what he shared with the world just moments ago.

Sony Lue Z – this is said to be the official name of the smartphone. From the looks of it, the handset will run Windows Phone 8.1 out of the box, and its design will follow the company's OmniBalance principles. Also, it seems that the Sony Lue Z could come with a custom camera application, or at least that's what we think the icon on the fourth row might indicate. If our assumption is correct, then Sony's WP8.1 warrior could be a camera-centric device and a potential rival to all the high-end Nokia Lumia models.

We must stress that there's no guarantee that the above image is genuine. It could be an elaborate hoax, and as we recently learned, even Evleaks is not immune to these. But the leak could be on the right track given all the rumors claiming that a Windows Phone device from Sony is coming. Hopefully, we'll know the truth soon enough.
