Sonim XP2 Spirit adds some pleasing appeal to its tough exterior
Rugged phones are expected to withstand the most brutal bit of punishment that nature can throw at it – and that's why most of them don't aim to be aesthetically pleasing to the eye. Sonim's latest offering strays away from the usual mundane looking rugged phones and adds some much needed appeal to the category. Although they may not be the most famous telecom brand, Sonim presented the XP2 Spirit during MWC. It actually is an IP-67 certified device – meaning it can operate in rain, fog, and salt. You might say those are some of the common things most handsets in this segment aims to accomplish, but the XP2 Spirit is going a bit more by allowing handlers to go swimming with it up to 1 meter deep for thirty minutes. Additionally you can drop it from a height of 2 meters, use it in the freezing cold & scorching heat, and can withstand shocks up to 4G. As it attempts to sway would be owners, the XP2 Spirit has a design that's a bit more pleasing than others – its housing is made out of hardened rubber, fiber glass, and nylon. Still, it manages to pack on features like 3G support and a 3-megapixel camera with an LED flash. It'll cost somewhere around 399 Euro ($543) and is currently available for purchase – it may be pricey, but it tacks on a three year warranty.
