Software update for the HTC EVO Shift 4G presumably removes Carrier IQ
Well, we have to hand it to Sprint for coming through like no other with their commitment to remove Carrier IQ from its devices. No doubt that they’ve been aggressive in pushing out software updates that seemingly removed Carrier IQ, but the HTC EVO Shift 4G can now also be included in the extensive listing.
Already, we’ve seen devices like the HTC EVO 3D, EVO 4G, EVO Design 4G, and Samsung Epic 4G all getting their respective updates to remove Carrier IQ, but now we’re hearing wind that the aging HTC EVO Shift 4G is getting its turn. From the looks of it, the handset is being updated to software version 2.77.651.3.
Although Sprint doesn’t outright say they’re removing Carrier IQ in the changelog, the “security update” brought along with it is presumed to be none other than the removal of the tracking software. Aside from that, we also find an update to the Peep client to align it with Twitter and battery life improvements.

Currently, the update is being pushed out to handsets right now, but if haven’t seen it just yet, guide yourself to the settings menu of the phone and manually update it yourself. Once that’s all taken care of, you won’t have to worry about Carrier IQ ever again with the phone – we hope!
