Snapdragon 835 gets benchmarked: octa-core design, fast Adreno 540 graphics in store for Galaxy S8
Not long ago, Qualcomm announced that its powerful Snapdragon 835 chipset is already sampling with customers, and it will apparently be produced in Samsung's foundries at the 10nm process. The first phones with Snapdragon 835 processors are expected to be Samsung's Galaxy S8 (at least its US versions) and the Xiaomi Mi 6, according to Keving Wong, the CEO of research shop IHS for China.
While these can't be found in a benchmark database just yet, Qualcomm's development board with Snapdragon 835 just popped up on one, and the processor seems to be an octa-core endeavor, clocked at 2.2 GHz here.
What's more intriguing, however, is the graphics performance, as the new Adreno 540 GPU scores about 30% higher compared to the 530 in the newest Snapdragon 821 that is used by phones like the OnePlus 3T. That is a fine bump in performance, and the 10nm production process could add a commensurate decrease in power consumption, too, compared to the 14nm Snapdragon 821.
