Snapchat will be streaming exclusive documentary footage from Planet Earth II
Planet Earth II is a massively popular documentary by the BBC. It aired in the UK last year, but it will just be making its way to BBC America. As a method of cross-promotion, Snapchat and BBC have teamed up to bring some exclusive footage to the mobile app.
Snapchat will be streaming short Planet Earth II episodes, each between 4 and 6 minutes long. They will debut on February 17th, a day before the full first episode of the show hits TVs across America. The Snapchat will cover the same topics as the main series – Islands, Mountains, Jungles, Deserts, Grasslands, and Cities – and they will be a mix between footage that will air on TV, and some exclusive shots that won't be shown anywhere else.
The Snapchat episodes will obviously not be available in 4K, and they will not feature Sir David Attenborough as a narrator. However, they will come with 3D audio.
The short mobile episodes will be released on Snapchat on weekly basis, and they will be accessible through the Discover section of the app. Users will be able to subscribe to the Planet Earth II mobile episodes via the familiar Snap codes. Said codes can also be used to watch episodes after they were removed from the Discover section.
