Skype 8.0 for Android now available for download in the Google Play

Early this month, the Skype team announced a new version of its messaging application would be released to mobile and then to desktop. Well, it looks like it took the developers slightly more than a week to make the new version of Skype available in the Google Play.

Skype 8.0 brings a bucket-load of new features and improvements that we've already discussed in a previous article. However, here is a quick recap for those who missed our initial post about the new Skype app.

First of all, group chats have been redesigned to look more lively and expressive. Users can now customize Skype with their favorite colors. You can now tap on the reaction icon next to a message or video call while in a conversation.

Skype also added its own take on Snapchat's “Stories” feature, which is called “Highlights.” It allows users to create a highlight reel of their day with photos and videos, and then share it with friends.

A new “Find” panel makes it much easier to search from within the app. Next to the Find panel, there are two tabs - Chat and Capture - that users can toggle between.

According to Skype, version 8.0 will be available first on Android devices, followed by the new version for iPhone. So, if you're using an Android phone, then you can already download it via Google Play.
