ShopSavvy app for Android is seeing a spike in users - attributed to the HTC EVO 4G
Record sales are putting certain Android apps to their limits as we've seen Qik pull its video chat client off of the Android Market due to the staggering amount of users signing on for the service. Now there is another popular app for Android that's also feeling the heat from the HTC EVO 4G. Frugal shoppers are probably in tune with the ShopSavvy app as it allows users to scan barcodes and receive prices for specific items – a great tool when you're trying to lessen the burden of going to various places to compare prices. However, its developer, Big in Japan, is reporting a similar experience as some of their retailers are “not fairing as well under the load” due to the increase of users. Big in Japan says its committed in keeping up with the pace as they attempt to add more server capacity this week seeing that scan traffic is up by more than 50 percent. Aside from Android, ShopSavvy is available on other smartphone platforms such as iOS, Windows Mobile, Symbian, and BlackBerry.
