The 2016 Moto Z is undergoing a soak test for Android 8.0
Just the other day,
we showed you a screenshot of a Moto Z Play unit powered by Android 8.0. So when Verizon pushed out an update to the Moto Z Play Droid a couple of days ago, we'd imagine that some of those receiving the notification felt a tingle when they saw that an update was being downloaded on to their handset. Unfortunately for these dreamers, the
Moto Z Play Droid was merely receiving the Android security patch for November.
Another sign that Motorola is gearing up to send out Android 8.0 to certain models was a recent report that we shared with you, stating that the Lenovo owned company is
looking for Moto Z and Moto Z2 Force owners to take part in a soak test. And that soak test appears to have started as the screenshot accompanying this story seems to show. The image, from a
Moto Z's
About phone page, shows the device running on Android 8.0.
The 2017 Moto Z2 series phones will probably be the first to receive the Oreo update, followed by the first-gen Moto Z models. The latter were released in 2016.
