Samsung's ostrich ad just got seven awards at a major trade festival
Thanks to the huge amount of leaks we were showered with beforehand, the Galaxy S8 launch event wasn't exactly the bombshell announcement Samsung probably wanted it to be. However, there was one thing pretty much no one could have expected: the ostrich ad. If you haven't seen it yet, go press the play button on the video above; it's really, really good.
So good, in fact, that it just got hit with an impressive seven awards at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, the biggest event of its kind in the advertising industry. The ad scored three gold medals in the visual impact, animation and direction categories, as well as two silver and two bronze medals.
The ad, which is, curiously enough, primarily focused on the Samsung Gear VR instead of the Galaxy S8, shows an ostrich (spoiler alert!) learning to fly with the help of Samsung's VR headset. This is supported by a tagline urging you to "do what you can't," which sure is uplifting, though perhaps bordering on oxymoron territory a bit.
