Samsung wants to trademark the names "Gear Now" and "Gear Solo" in the US

Just a few days ago, we heard that Samsung was allegedly planning to launch a 3G-capable version of its Gear smartwatch in Korea. Reportedly, the new smartwatch should be called Samsung Gear Solo.

We can now confirm that Samsung does intend to use the name Gear Solo, as we discovered a trademark application for it that was filed with the USPTO on April 4. On the same day, Samsung also filed a trademark application for the name “Samsung Gear Now.” We can only imagine that this could be used for yet another smartwatch.

The Samsung Gear Solo is supposed to support SIM cards, thus being capable of acting like a phone by itself - allowing you to make calls without pairing it to another Samsung device. Just like the Gear 2, the Gear Solo will most probably run Tizen.

There are no images to show the Gear Solo, but the new smartwatch will probably not look too different from the Gear 2 (seen above). Let’s hope we’ll hear more on this soon.
