Samsung intros Exynos 5 (7872) series chipsets for mid-range smartphones
Samsung has just announced its new lineup of Exynos 5 chipsets, which will power some of the mid-range smartphones coming in 2018. Ironically, the first handset to be equipped with an Exynos 5 series chip is the Meizu M6s, a middle-class device made official earlier today.
The Exynos 7872 chipset accommodates six cores: 2x Cortex-A73 CPUs clocked at 2GHz and 4x Cortex-A53 CPUs clocked at 1.6GHz. Also, the chip comes with a Mali-G71MP1 graphics processing unit and an LTE Cat.7 modem (300Mbps download, 150Mbps upload).
Samsung doesn't mention anything about dual-camera support, but its chipset does come with support for 21.7-megapixel front and rear cameras. The chipset doesn't offer 2160p video capture, but phones powered by Exynos 5 will be capable of full HD 120fps encoding and decoding.
The Exynos 5 series (7872) chip is manufactured on a 14nm process and promises single core performance increased by two folds when compared to its predecessor.
