Following speculation surrounding which operating system the next generation of Samsung’s rebranded smartwatch lineup would ship with, a report earlier today revealed that it would in fact ship with Tizen. And now, thanks to information obtained by SamMobile, it appears the exact version will be Tizen 4.0 which was first announced last year.

Coinciding with rumors that Samsung has plans to ship the upcoming Galaxy Watch with Bixby pre-installed, Tizen 4.0 includes various new voice control APIs which will ultimately allow the device to compete more directly with rival wearables – the Apple Watch ships with Siri support and new Wear OS devices include the Google Assistant. But, at this moment in time, it’s unclear what other benefits the new OS will bring, although certain performance improvements are likely. Nevertheless, aside from Bixby support, the new Galaxy Watch is also set to include a variety of new fitness-focused features and numerous new healthcare apps.

In terms of when users can expect Samsung’s new wearable to become available, an announcement is currently rumored to be taking place on August 9 alongside the launch of the Galaxy Note 9 and the brand’s new tablet lineup. Shortly after this, on August 14, pre-orders are set to go live, with shipments eventually following 10 days later on August 24. In terms of pricing, though, details are yet to have been revealed.
