Samsung hasn't forgotten the older Android tablets, regardless of whether they're flagships or budget-friendly models. If you still own a Galaxy Tab S3 or Galaxy Tab A (2017), you'll be happy to know that Samsung is now rolling out Android 9.0 Pie updates for both tablets.
The folks over at SamMobile report the Galaxy Tab S3 is now getting the update in countries like Malaysia, Philippines, and Vietnam, while the Galaxy Tab A (2017) is eligible for the update only in Malaysia for the moment.
Naturally, these major Android OS updates tend to expand to more territories after a few weeks, so we do not doubt that everyone will get it by the end of the year or possibly earlier. But the best thing about the news is that even though these tablets were launched on the market two years ago, they're still getting a major OS update.
In regards with the update, we've learned that it brings the new One UI, the August security patch (June security patch on the Galaxy Tab A 2017), and a couple of other improvements to various features like notifications, Samsung Keyboard, Bixby, Gallery, and Contacts.
Other changes mentioned in the changelog include support for HEIF images, Galaxy Buds and Gear IconX (2018). Also, call stickers and Samsung Max have been discontinued, while Kids Home can now be accessed via the quick panel.
Keep in mind that the update weighs about 1.2GB, so make sure you have enough free storage before attempting to download it if you live in one of the countries mentioned above.
