A Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 is updated to Android 6.0.1
Last month, Samsung Netherlands' Facebook page suggested that the
Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 and the
Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 would
not be receiving an update to the Marshmallow build of Android. That would have left Android 5.0.2 running the slates for infinity (and beyond!). However, one of our loyal PhoneArena readers got in touch with us today to report that his Galaxy Tab S 8.4 Wi-Fi received the update to Android 6.0.1.
According to our tipster, the update weighs in at approximately 900MB. Despite the report from Samsung Netherlands, there were benchmark tests seen earlier this year showing the tablet running on Marshmallow. The update adds contextual search from
Google Now On Tap, and the ability to give or deny an app permission to use certain functions on a feature-by-feature basis. And with
Doze, your inactive tablet will shut down apps running in the background in order to increase the battery life of the device. Those are just some of the improvements that you can look forward to with the update to Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow.
If you own the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 or Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5, be on the look out for the notification telling you that the update has arrived. Before you start the process of updating your slate, make sure that you're connected to a Wi-Fi network (if you have the model with cellular connectivity) and have your battery charged fully.
Thanks for the tip!
