Coming with a new 8MP f/1.7 front-facing camera, the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus seem like they are greatly improving on the formula that got employed on the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge, which arrived with 5MP selfie snappers at the front. Aside from the spec-bump, the selfie camera now also employs auto-focus, which is a new for Samsung.
So far, it sounds like the Galaxy S8 might up your Instagram game big time and get you lots and lots of likes. On paper, that is.
But how does this translate to real-life usage? Do these upgrades translate to outstanding improvements in the selfies you get?
Well, we had the chance to play with a Galaxy S8 for a while, and the front-facer was among the top things we wanted to try out. One thing led to another, and you're here checking out our first selfies taken with the Galaxy S8. Without further ado, here they are:
As you can see from the shots above, the S8 does a neat job at identifying the user's face and exposing it properly, which is vital for producing an appealing Instagram-worthy selfie. That's especially true with strong backlighting present when shooting in contre-jour — the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus will try hard to expose your face correctly and will succeed most of the times. The auto-focusing system prioritizes and locks focus onto the closest face to the camera, which should be taken in mind when you want to take a group selfie with your pals.
But how do the S8 and S8 Plus fare against other noteworthy selfie machines, like the iPhone 7, the Galaxy S7, and the LG G6? Check out in the gallery right below!
