Samsung Galaxy S5 mini starts receiving Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update

The Galaxy S5 mini is an old smartphone launched back in the summer of 2014. However, Samsung has already provided those who haven't switched to a new device with an Android 5.0.1 Lollipop upgrade last year.

The good news is Galaxy S5 mini owners can expect another major OS update to roll out in the coming weeks. According to a user on XDA Developers, Samsung has already kicked off the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow deployment to all Galaxy S5 mini users in Russia.

Keep in mind though that the update has been confirmed for the Galaxy S5 mini duos model (SM-G800H), so if you own the single SIM version, the update might not be available yet, but we so no reason why Samsung won't offer the update to this variant as well.

It's also worth mentioning that this is a fairly sizable download (800MB), so make sure you have plenty of free storage to upgrade to Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow.

The update seems to be available from around October 22, so many Galaxy S5 mini owners might have already upgraded to Marshmallow. Aside from the usual new features and improvements included in Android 6.0.1, the update also contains the September security patch.

It looks like Samsung didn't have time to add the latest October security update that's been detailed earlier this month. Either way, the fact that the Galaxy S5 mini is getting another major OS update more than two years after its launch, is almost a miracle.
