Samsung Denmark's website is now revealing that the Samsung Galaxy S5 mini (SM-G800) will be receiving an update to Android 5.0.1. The handset is currently running Android 4.4.2. The update actually takes the less-spec'd mini version of Samsung's last generation flagship phone, to a slightly higher build than the Android 5.0 version received by the Samsung Galaxy S5 (SM-G900). That update took place in February.
Back in February, we passed along the word from Samsung France that the Samsung Galaxy S5 mini would received its Lollipop update in the second quarter of the year, which ends when July starts. The update includes the Material Design of Android 5.0, Lock Screen notifications, the 64-bit ART compiler that opens apps faster, Project Volta for improved battery life, Quick Settings pull-down shade from any page, new Recent Apps menu and more.
The Samsung Galaxy S5 mini features a 4.5-inch Super AMOLED screen with a resolution of 720 x 1280. That works out to a pixel density of 326ppi. Powering the device is the Samsung Exynos 3470 SoC which features a quad-core 1.4GHz CPU and the Mali 400MP4 GPU. 1.5GB of RAM is inside with 16GB of native storage. If you need more memory, you can access the 64GB capacity microSD slot that is available on the handset. An 8MP camera is on the back of the device while a 2.1MP snapper adorns the front of the unit. A 2100mAh battery keeps the lights on.
While the Samsung Denmark site shows that the Galaxy S5 mini is in line to receive the Android 5.0.1 update, it doesn't give a specific date for its arrival. As we noted, a prior leak says that the update will take place some time during the current quarter.
