Samsung Galaxy S4 sales slumped to 5 million units in August, still topped the ranks
Despite being the best-selling smartphone in the traditionally slow August, the Galaxy S4 sell-through rate has dipped to 5 million units then, which might have prompted Samsung to speed up the development and release of the Galaxy S5.
Counterpoint Research’s monthly model tracker pegs the S4 on top of all phones, followed by the iPhone 5 16 GB and iPhone 5 32 GB models. There are three affordable Nokia Asha models in the top 10 ranking, and the rest is pretty much all Samsung:

The research company expects to gauge from September sales, which traditionally start the holiday shopping ramp-up, whether the slump of Galaxy S4 sales is due to seasonality, or simply the strength of competitive offerings this year.
