Almost five years after Samsung first adopted fingerprint scanners, one industry source has today suggested that the South Korean giant could soon make the switch over to the newer in-display solution.

More specifically, it’s claimed that the upcoming Galaxy A10 will be one of Samsung’s first smartphones to come equipped with an under-display fingerprint sensor. Now, at the moment, details about this device are quite scarce but it’s expected to sit just above the recently-announced Galaxy A9 (2018). This means that the smartphone should bridge the gap between the Galaxy A series and Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S10 devices.

Presently, no design or spec details have been provided. However, way back in September, this same source revealed that Samsung was preparing a Snapdragon 845-powered Galaxy A model. Now, this could potentially be a totally different device but there’s no denying that the processor would make perfect sense for the Galaxy A10. After all, the Galaxy A9 is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 660 and the Galaxy A8s uses the Snapdragon 710.

Going by Samsung’s usual release history, the Galaxy A10 could make its first official appearance in early January alongside the company’s new budget Galaxy M series. If this fails to happen, the next logical announcement window is MWC 2019 in February.
