Samsung GALAXY Note II to be introduced at August 15th event?
When Samsung spread the word this past weekend that it would be taking the wraps off of its next Galaxy device on August 15th, right away most thought of the Samsung GALAXY Note II. The original model was a big hit as the combination phone and tablet created a whole new phablet category while other tablet/phone combinations had failed. While the Galaxy device that Samsung will unveil on August 15th is still officially unknown, a source for BGR confirms that it will be the Samsung GALAXY Note II that the Korean based manufacturer will introduce.
According to the source, the device will have a slightly larger 5.5 inch screen in a thinner and taller case. The OG version has a 5.3 inch display. There have been other rumors about the device over the last few weeks. Last month, we passed along the speculation that the Samsung GALAXY Note II would launch in October and then passed along word that the launch had been moved up to September to give the device a fighting chance to gain some traction before the launch of the next Apple iPhone. The one spec that remained constant throughout all of the speculation was a 5.5 inch AMOLED screen for the sequel.
Originally, the Samsung GALAXY Note II was expected to be announced at the Samsung Unpacked event being held on August 30th at the IFA expo in Berlin. If one believes that the date of the Samsung GALAXY Note II introduction has something to do with the launch of the 6th generation Apple iPhone, it could be that Samsung has discovered something about when Apple is launching the next Apple iPhone and has decided to move up its timetable for the phablet sequel in response.
