Samsung Epic 4G could visit the Gingerbread bakery this month
The Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for the Samsung Epic 4G on Sprint is expected to come this month, around the 24th, says unnamed source from the nation's third largest carrier.
The Gingerbread update brings a more refined UI, as well as improved text input, downloads, applications and power management. The source mentioned that Samsung's TouchWiz interface overlay (what else) has been the culprit for the Gingerbread update delay, but the issues are obviously being sorted out, and it should be just a few weeks before the improvements start gracing your Epic 4G.
This confirms for the Nth time that manufacturer overlays are thorn in the paw when it comes to timely Android updates, regardless how useful their creators perceive them. Oh, well, we can't have it all, and Google said it will slow the pace down with Android updates annually after Ice Cream Sandwich, so next year we might be looking at a different Android world.
