Rumor: Apple prepping 5.8-inch iPhone with OLED screen
Get your salt shaker out. According to Digitimes, Apple is working on a new iPhone model that would feature a 5.8-inch OLED screen. There has been plenty of guessing as to when an OLED-screened iPhone might be ready for prime time. Connected Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says that this won't happen until 2019.
Don't expect Apple to introduce a 5.8-inch OLED screened model this year. Digitimes says that we won't see such a handset from Apple until 2017 at the earliest. The rumor adds that Samsung will supply the bulk of the OLED panels used by Apple for the iPhone, with LG Display and Japan Display picking up the slack. The 5.8-inch iPhone could be named the iPhone Pro.
On March 21st, Apple is believed to be introducing a brand new 4-inch handset called the Apple iPhone SE. The unit will be powered by the A9 chipset, offer NFC and Apple Pay, and carry a 12MP rear-facing camera. The iPhone SE is expected to offer Live Photos without using 3D Touch. At the event on the 21st, we should also see a new 9.7-inch version of the Apple iPad Pro with an Apple A9X chipset, 4GB of RAM, quad-speakers, and support for the Apple Pencil and the Smart Keyboard.
Lastly, a refreshed Apple Watch could be unveiled at the event, with FaceTime support.
