Rollout begins for PR1.1 Windows Phone update for Nokia Lumia 920
We have been hearing about the incoming update for Windows Phone 8 devices, and it looks like the rollout is beginning at least for the Nokia Lumia 920. Nokia had said the update would be released this month, and now has said the update is rolling out in the US and Canada. This is the update we'd heard about codenamed Portico, also labeled as PR1.1.
As we saw yesterday, this update should help to fix issues with fuzzy pictures on the Lumia 920, and could improve picture quality quite a bit. The update brings added features to the Messaging system, as well as better and more reliable Bluetooth performance, better and more reliable device boots, better battery management, and the nebulous "additional platform updates and enhancements", which likely refers to issues of freezing and random reboots that have been reported.
The update is available now for users in the US and Canada, and Nokia says it will be made available internationally starting in February. And, remember, WP8 now does over-the-air (OTA) updates, so you don't have to connect to your computer to get the update. Just make sure you're on WiFi and go to Settings --> Phone Update --> Check For Updates, and follow the instructions. When it's all done just check Settings --> About to confirm your Software Version is1232.5951.1249.0001.
