With Android O, Google is bringing a fresh new look to its emoji... again. But this time around, it's making a serious departure from a style that it has adhered to for years. Ever since they first appeared, Android's emoticons have retained a unique, blob-like shape, keeping them similar to the Android mascot's head. However, the "blob emoji" aren't really loved by users, often referred to as ugly.
Major manufacturers seem to agree — pretty much every Android phone that doesn't rock vanilla Android has a set of reworked, conventional-looking, circular emoji. Basically, the blob heads are only present on Google's Pixel and Nexus phones. But that's about to change — with Android O, users of Google's stock OS will get much more conventional-looking smileys – circular ones!
We thought we'd ask you what you think about that. Seems like most are happy to see the ol' blob go!
