Report: Huawei P8 to skip MWC; unveiling to take place during an event in April
On Monday, we told you that Huawei was removing the "Ascend" name from its line of smartphones. That makes the sequel to the Huawei Ascend P7, the Huawei P8. The latter is expected to feature a 5.2-inch screen with a resolution of 1080 x 1920. Huawei will use its own octa-core Kirin 930 chip and 3GB of RAM will be inside. 32GB of native storage is included and a fingerprint scanner is rumored to be on board. A metal chassis will be employed, pictures of which we have already shown you.

The news today from China is that the Huawei P8 will not be unveiled at MWC in March as expected. Instead, the model will see the light of day during the following month. Today's report indicates that the manufacturer will hold a special event in April, at which time it will unwrap the handset. The phone is expected to be priced at the equivalent of $483 USD.

Huawei and Xiaomi are locked in a rather fierce rivalry. The former managed to squeak in last year as the third largest smartphone manufacturer globally, with Xiaomi right behind. But the latter has introduced a new flagship model that just might become a huge winner this year in the Xiaomi Mi Note Pro. Huawei could still get in the last word. The company's D8 model should feature a 5.5-inch screen with a 1440 x 2560 resolution, a 64-bit Kirin 950 CPU and 4GB of RAM. Priced at $800 USD, the Huawei D8 is scheduled for a May unveiling.

Thanks for the tip!
