Report: Glass and magnesium build for the Samsung Galaxy S7?
According to a rumor out of China, which specifically came from a posting on Weibo, the Samsung Galaxy S7 is going to feature a tougher build than the Samsung Galaxy S6. The latter employs grade 6013 aluminum. Apple went with a series 7000 aluminum build for the Apple iPhone 6s and Apple iPhone 6s Plus following #bendgate.
The new rumor states that the Samsung Galaxy S7 will use a magnesium alloy body. There will be a glass back panel, keeping with the premium look and feel of the Galaxy S6. Interestingly, Meizu just producd a teaser the other day, hinting that a magnesium, aluminum alloy will be used on the Meizu Blue Charm Metal smartphone.
The Samsung Galaxy S7 could feature a Snapdragon 820 SoC in China and the U.S., andthe unannounced Exynos 8890 chipset elsewhere. Expect to see a 5.7-inch screen with a 1440 x 2560 resolution, and a dual camera system similar to the one employed on the HTC One (M8).
This is the second time that we've passed along the rumor that the Galaxy S7 will use a magnesium alloy build. The advantage of using this material is that it will provide the strength to keep the handset from bending and getting damaged when dropped, but will be lightweight enough to prevent users from getting a hernia from holding it. If you believe in the old adage that "where there is smoke there is fire," the magnesium alloy build for the Galaxy S7 is just about in the bag.
Thanks for the tip!
