Report: Apple Pay heading for Canadian launch in March
All reports seem to indicate that mobile payment system Apple Pay is off to a great start in the U.S. Now, there is talk that Apple will take the feature across the border to Canada as soon as March. Those in a position to know, say that Apple's Canadian partners are designing promotional materials for the third month of the year.
In the states, Apple Pay supports cards that make up 90% of credit card transaction volume, and works with over 500 banks. Expansion overseas was hinted at in a job listing that Apple posted last year, seeking people for "a new and exciting area in Apple that is set to expand across Europe, Middle East, India and Africa." Last month, we told you that a U.K. launch of the tap to pay service could take place in the first half of this year.
March could turn out to be a big month for Apple Pay with the possible launch of the Apple Watch. The smartwatch supports Apple Pay as long as the wearable is paired with the Apple iPhone 6, Apple iPhone 6 Plus, Apple iPhone 5s, Apple iPhone 5c and Apple iPhone 5.
