Redmi India teaser points to a price cut for the Xiaomi Redmi 2, or the launch of the Xiaomi Redmi 2A
A teaser published by Xiaomi's Redmi India Facebook page indicates that the company has an announcement to make tomorrow. Based on the image, which shows a price in Indian rupees partially covered up (5999 rupees), we could see the launch of a Xiaomi model previously unsold in the country. Or, we could see a price cut on a currently available model.

One report says that the Xiaomi Redmi 2 will be getting a price cut tomorrow in India. This rumor suggests that the device will be slashed by the equivalent of $16 USD to $95 USD. In Indian currency, this is a cut of 1000 rupees to 5999 rupees. Considering that the teaser shows a price of 5999 rupees, this looks like it could be the announcement being teased by Xiaomi, right?

Not so fast. Another report suggests that the teaser is hinting at the unveiling in India tomorrow of the Xiaomi Redmi 2A. This model was unveiled at the end of March and basically features the same specs as the Redmi 2. Both phones include a 4.7-inch, 720 x 1280 resolution screen, 1GB of RAM and an 8MP/2MP camera combo back to front.

The difference between the Redmi 2 and the Redmi 2A is under the hood. The former employs the 64-bit Snapdragon 410 SoC, which features a quad-core 1.2GHz CPU and the Adreno 306 GPU. The latter is powered by the Leadcore LC1860C chipset which contains a quad-core 1.5GH CPU, and the Mali-T628 MP2 GPU. And the kicker here is that the Redmi 2A could go on sale priced at 5999 rupees ($95 USD).

Tomorrow, we could see Xiaomi bringing a new phone to India, or cutting the price of a current model. Either way, Indian consumers are the winners here.
