Zello PTT Walkie Talkie is one of the "hottest" apps in the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store.  The free app turns your iOS or Android device into a Walkie-Talkie with push-to-talk capabilities. With the app installed, users can have a conversation one-on-one with a friend or family member, or join a group conversation. One reason for the app's popularity is a rumor that installing it will turn your phone into a two-way radio without requiring internet connectivity. Unfortunately, that is not true. You do need to be connected to a carrier's network, or to Wi-Fi in order for Zello to work.

Another reason for the app's popularity is that before Hurricane Harvey hit Houston, social media messages advised smartphone users to install the app since it could be used to call for help. In fact, a Louisiana-based group called the Cajun Navy was using Zello to communicate. This group of volunteers were taking distress calls over the Zello app and were helping move those who were stranded by the storm. With Hurricane Irma pounding Florida, many living in that area have been installing the app.

Some of the features available with Zello PTT Walkie Talkie include:

  • Free live voice over any network or Wi-Fi connection
  • See who’s available or busy
  • Send photos to friends instantly
  • Replay messages later, even if your phone was off
  • Cross-platform
  • Free with no ads
  • Won’t spam your friends
  • Lets you delete your account
  • Supports Apple Watch as remote control (no audio support yet)

Even if aren't expecting a hurricane, you might find Zello to be a handy tool. To install it on your iOS or Android device, click on the sourcelink.
