RIM nabs top spot for December's most popular phone in U.S.
The month of December is critical for a lot of businesses due partly to the various holiday events occurring at that time. Handset manufacturers can produce a significant amount of profit thanks to the many shoppers looking around for the best gifts. Three of RIM’s devices made a top ten list with the aging BlackBerry Curve taking the top spot. Not surprisingly, the Storm took the number three spot while the Bold fell one spot from November to number 6. According to the research firm AvianResearch L.L.C., the rankings are based on its Monthly Retail Store Survey from 100 service representatives and store retail managers from the four major U.S. wireless carriers. Taking the number one spot in an era where handset manufacturers are being more competitive shows how RIM’s product appeal to the masses. Surprisingly, the only sole U.S. manufacturer to make the list was Apple’s iPhone which took the number two spot. While both LG and Samsung saw three of their devices round out the rest of the top ten. The rankings again were not based on actual sales figures from every handset maker, but from a survey instead.
