Privates for iOS is a secure messenger app that's actually fun for a change
Developer: RXN LLC | Download: iOS |
Category: Social | Price: Free |
Behind Privates' cheeky name and laid-back attitude lies one of the most secure messenger apps around. The app employs end-to-end encryption, a patent-pending screenshot protection mechanism, and a user-controllable message self-destruct feature. Its makers have also built in the ability to picture your reaction face as a fun "natural" emoticon, or draw and write on photos.
Privates features three security levels – Mild, Wild, and Insane! They stand for lengths of time after which your messages will expire. Mild is 24 hours, Wild is 12 hours, and Insane is 3 hours. Choose wisely! Moreover, the app demands that you unplug the phone from your computer to view messages in order to prevent the use of external hacking tools.
As the app's security features are HIPAA-compliant, Privates is good for professional and casual users alike. Medical workers and lawyers can make use of it for secure communications just as well as a pair of hormone-riddled teenagers sending each other self-destructing pics. Privates also comes with a "Recall" option which is, basically, an undo button for unread messages. So if you send something you shouldn't have and manage to erase it before the other party's seen it, you won't have to regret it later!
Privates is free and up for iOS, with Android and Windows versions in the works for a later release.
