Press render for Meizu Pro 5 shows Flyme 5.0 is on board
A press render for the upcoming Meizu Pro 5 has leaked, revealing that contrary to previous reports, the new high-end model will be running Flyme 5.0 on top of Android 5.1. Previously, Flyme chief designer Yang Yan had posted on his Weibo page that the Pro 5 would come with Flyme 4.5 pre-installed. The latest version of the UI would then be sent out to Pro 5 owners via an OTA update.
A teaser was also posted today, with a reminder that in three days Meizu will hold a media event. At this event, we should see the Pro 5 unveiled. Earlier comments from the company's president, Bai Yongxiang, seemed to indicate that there would be two variants of the phone, one powered by the deca-core MT-6797 CPU from MediaTek. Meizu seems to have gone away from that talk, focusing instead on the Exynos 7420 chipset that will reportedly be powering the Pro 5. That, of course, is the powerful SoC that drives the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Samsung Galaxy S6 edge. It includes an octa-core CPU and the Mali-T760 MP8 GPU.

Other rumored specs include a 5.7-inch display with a 1080 x 1920 resolution, 4GB of RAM, and a 21MP rear-facing camera. A 5MP snapper is on front of the handset, ready to shoot selfies and handle video chats. On Wednesday, we should learn everything about the Pro 5, including pricing and availability. Stay tuned!
